Next week sees the launch of National Apprenticeship Week 2012, and the calendar is already filling up with events and activities for employers, training providers, colleges and, of course, the apprentices themselves. For many people, apprenticeships have often been overlooked in favour of traditional routes through higher education like university but with the rise in tuition fees and the importance of workplace training and experience growing year on year, it's no surprise that people of all ages are looking to 'earning while learning'.
Progression in technology also means that it is now easier for businesses to see the advantages of taking on an apprentice; online tools like those provided by our own Apprenticeship e-Academy help to make the recruitment process simpler. Offering applicants the chance to complete a personality test before going to the next stage means that the right apprentice is matched to the right job even before going to the interview stage, and the radar chart results are available for the applicant to keep, helping them with future applications if necessary.
The advantages to using e-learning are numerous for both business and apprentice and these videos from our Apprenticeship e-Academy and YP Training divisions show existing partners explain in their own words.
More videos are available on our YouTube channel and opinions from mature apprentices can be found in our interviews with workers from David Brown Gears
A good learning management system means easy tracking of progress, but most importantly it would seem that by not having a set day when the apprentice is 'lost' to college, both parties gain the advantage of flexibility.
As mentioned in the interview above, the arrival of a large workload can be a huge advantage to the apprentice’s shop floor training, and moving their allocated learning time to another day when the workload has ceased means better concentration. Apprentices can also take advantage of learning at their own pace as they aren't limited to a tutors time plan or the abilities of classmates, something many of our distance learners expressed as a large positive advantage of completed an e-apprenticeship.
Like everything, different approaches work for different people, and the arrival of e-apprenticeships has opened a world of possibility to businesses, training providers and apprentices alike. We look forward to hearing from you in National Apprenticeship Week, and if you'd like more information on how the e-Apprenticeship product can help you, call YP Training on 01943 885088.
